Recycle – Ink and Toner Cartridges

Today Americans throw away millions of tons of garbage every single day. To eliminate some of the problems relating to landfills many states have a “Cash Redemption Value” placed on aluminum cans, plastic and glass bottles.

I am sure many of us have either participated or have watched as others have recycled their aluminum cans or plastic and glass bottles.

I have seen many homeless people dig through dumpsters for these items that will give them resources for their day.

Recycling the aluminum cans, plastic and glass bottles should be a part of our daily life. We should be actively involved and conscience of conserving these reusable elements daily. Participating in this activity is the easiest of many recycling projects that municipalities have promoted.

There is another item that most businesses and homeowners typically throw away that can be reused. That item is the ink or toner cartridges for your printer.

I am sure that many cities have individuals or organizations that actively recycle ink cartridges and toner cartridges everyday. We have one or two in my city.

There is also the possibility of businesses to obtain LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) points for their participation in recycling ink and toner cartridges. According to LEED requirements, a business can qualify for 1 point if they recycle 50% of their ink and/or toner cartridges, or obtain 2 points for recycling 70% or more of their ink and toner cartridges.

If you are a business owner who has a program in place to recycle your cartridges, I applaud you and would encourage you to continue that program. If you do not have such a program in place, please contact a local vendor who would perform this service.
