Music Routines on Floor Exercises to Wow the Judges

In gymnastics it is amazing how moving a floor exercise routine can be when the athlete matches the music and sparks the epitome of art, athleticism, and beauty all at the same time. Likewise, it is very obvious when a floor exercise and the music does not match the athlete, they seem out of place, it doesn’t seem right, and even though it may receive high points for creativeness, it does not add to the athlete’s mystique, or athleticism.

When the proper music is used, and it fits with the creative flow, and artistic creation of the athlete’s form and style, everything is in sync. Even if the athlete isn’t completely perfect, it’s really hard to tell. Plus, it gives the athlete a benefit later during other competitions during a gymnastic tournament, as being liked by the judges.

Despite the reality that judges are supposed to judge on talent, and precision the reality is that they are still humans, and will vote for what they feel comfortable with, what they enjoy, and by the emotional attachment they get to the athlete during their performance. In reality this makes gymnastic coaching and judging rather difficult, but it is the reality of the sport.

Then of course there are differences with culture, as each judge comes from a different culture and sees things in a different way. One type of music with a certain athlete may please one judge and then turn off another. Still, the reality is music for floor exercises are the key to winning gymnastic tournaments and placing high in the scores.

You can ask any judge the reality of this, and they will admit that certain performances by certain athletes and certain types of music really hit home with them. And even if they try their base their judging on talent, skill and precision they often find themselves siding with the athlete that emotionally moves them, and music is a big part of it. Please think on this.
