Bet on the Prettiest Horsey to Make Money at the Horse Races – I’m Not Kidding
As a long time student and sometimes teacher of horse racing handicapping, the title of this article may have my fans scratching their heads (one head per fan) and wondering what has come over the old boy. I know it sounds funny, but when you’ve been to the race track as many times as I have with neophytes who decide to bet on the prettiest horse and then win, you get a little funny in the head.
Maybe it’s the strain of refraining from beating them over the head with my racing program because they have just aggravated me beyond all limits of human endurance. I spend 5 hours handicapping the races and using half a century of racing know how to home in on the perfect bet and it gets beaten at the wire by the one they called, “the pretty horsy.”
This very situation has occurred more times than I care to mention in my life and I finally did turn it to my advantage. First of all, I learned that when I take someone to the race track for the first time, it is just a pleasure outing. There will be no serious handicapping because that fickle jokester, Beginner’s Luck, will be going along with us. I simply allow the newbie to pick any horse he or she wants to bet on and then I bet the very same one. I don’t care what the reason is that they are betting on it.
I have found over the years that there is some logic to this method. First of all, the prettiest horse often does win. It is the shiniest, and liveliest of the field and stands out, particularly to a first-time race-goer who only has appearances to go on. They look at the horses with an un-jaundiced eye and see them for what they are at the moment instead of worrying who their parents may have been or whether or not they failed in their last race.
So you see, there really is some logic in betting on the prettiest horsey.
The most consistent horse racing systems have to have the basics and a handicapper must understand the basics. I have been around horse racing for 50 years including as an owner. Without the basics the rest is not going to do any good. If you want to learn how a horse owner and insider handicaps just go to http://williewins.homestead.com/truecb.html and get the truth.
