Ski Vacations – What You Need to Do to Prepare For a Great Time Skiing!
Are you planning a ski vacation and wondering what you should bring? There is nothing worse than getting to the ski hill or resort and finding out that you forgot something. For the rest of this article I am going to assume you have your own equipment. Resorts and ski hills do carry rentals in skis, boots and poles, but that is the extent of it. Below is a check list of articles required and preparations you need to do in order to make your ski vacation enjoyable.
Skis and bindings: Without these it would be hard to ski. What you need to do is prepare them for the ski trip. Make sure they are properly waxed and the bindings are is working order. If it has been a long time since your last ski trip you need to assess yourself. Have you either gained or lost weight? If so, you need to adjust the bindings. If you do not know how to do it that you may want to visit the local ski shop to get expert advice. Remember ski technology changes regularly so you may want to upgrade your equipment.
Boots: Try them on, make sure they fit. Try walking around in them for a couple of days just to get your feet used to them. You are going to be wearing them a lot on your ski vacation so you do not want them to cause you pain an grief. Remember you are there to have fun.
Poles and Gloves: For the poles make sure that they are the right height for you and that the baskets are still intact. Again, if you are unsure ask the experts. With gloves make sure they fit and it would be a good idea to bring a couple of pair.
Head Gear: The only thing I am going to say about this is make sure you bring a helmet, the days of toques is over. Since March of 2009, when Natasha Richardson succumbed to a head injury she received as a result of a skiing accident, a lot of resorts and ski hills will be making the wearing of a helmet mandatory, so beware. The new helmets out today are fashionable and have the latest technology including audio to make your skiing experience pleasurable.
Lastly Clothes: Make sure you check the weather conditions where you are going and dress appropriately. Nothing is worse than being on a ski hill and either freezing or sweating from the weather or being wet.
When skiing, one of the most important pieces of equipment you can invest in is a ski helmet. Many serious head injuries have occurred from falls on a ski hill when not wearing a ski helmet.
