How to Cut Weight For Wrestling Without Losing Strength Or Energy – Part 4
How To Drop Those Last Few Pounds!
It’s frustrating isn’t it? You cut weight and each time you get stuck just about 2 or 3lbs above your target weight… So you put on the plastics, spit, sit in a sauna or any other dehydration method because you are panicking and don’t know what to do. I mentioned in an earlier weight-cutting article that I don’t like it when wrestlers dehydrate because they are simply dehydrating the muscle cells – resulting in a weakened state and no energy.
I also mentioned that you’d want to pull the muscle glycogen out of the muscle cells because each gram holds up to 3 molecules of water… You accomplish this by ‘burning up’ the muscle glycogen… I recently created a program called ’6 Minute Conditioning for Wrestlers.’ This program gets you stronger, faster and in great condition for wrestling by doing a variety of very unique body weight workouts. They only take 6 minutes too…. One of the best benefits of the ’6 Minute Conditioning for Wrestlers’ program is that they are perfect for doing when you are in those last 3 days and need to burn up your muscle glycogen. Basically, you perform 2 exercises in a workout such as Jumping Squats and a Plank.
You’d do 5 Jumping Squats followed by a Plank for a 20-second hold. You alternate 5 Jumping Squats followed by Planks for 20 seconds until you’ve gone for 6 straight minutes. Another great exercise combination is Pushups alternated with Wall Sits. You would alternate 5 pushups with 20 second Wall Sits until 6 total minutes elapse. It’s very hard to finish, and you struggle towards the end. That’s good! That’s when you are burning up muscle glycogen and find yourself a couple of pounds lighter within a few hours. Be sure to try out … it really works!
